Word for Windows and Mac is soon getting a Like button for comments

It’s safe to say that we are all familiar with the concept of a Like button by now, so there’s no need in explaining what it is.’

Whether you used it on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or any other social media platforms, the idea is pretty much the same.

The Redmond tech giant felt that some of its apps might also benefit from such a feature, and that’s what we’re going to focus on right now.

Before we get into it, however, remember that the Windows Backup app will soon save your Chrome passwords.

Get ready to test this brand-new feature for Word

As we’ve mentioned, a version of the Like button is going to appear in Microsoft’s Word app after you download and install the latest update.

In a recent blog post, the company said that it is rolling out the new Like icon for user comments in Word for Windows.

As Microsoft stated, this modern comment experience in Word sets the stage for richer collaboration by your team and aligns the commenting experience across the Office suite.

Using modern comments, you can leave thoughts or questions in the document for others, review and edit your comments before committing them, and mention someone.

Before, you had to improvise by typing replies like +1 to let others know that you agree or would like to participate in a certain event.

However, now, you can simply click a button to upvote a response, agree with a sentiment, or acknowledge that you’ve read a collaborator’s feedback.

Customer feedback suggested that users wanted to be able to quickly and easily convey their reaction to a comment like you can do on Word for the web, Teams, or other social media apps.

Thus, the Like icon button will now appear on any comment that’s created for a Word document in the top right corner.

That means that you can just click on it to show that you approve of the comment. You can also hover the cursor over the button to see who else has liked it.

And, if you didn’t mean to like something, know that you can also take back your reaction by clicking on the button again.

Please note that Microsoft says the Like icon will not be available if a Word document is in read-only mode.

Furthermore, you can also react to a comment below the top comment by pressing the Down arrow. This will allow you to move through the list of comments.

Keep in mind that this new feature is only available for Word for Windows beta testers for now, along with Word users on the web.

It’s now rolling out for Current Channel (Preview) users running Version 2305 (Build 16501.20152) or later, so remember that.

Also, the Like icon comment feature will be added to the Mac version of Word in the next few weeks, so keep an eye out for that as well.

For the time being, iOS and Android Word users won’t be able to see the Like reactions. Older Word documents with comments may not show the button but any new comments added will support it.
