Get the May 2023 Patch Tuesday updates today

Yes, another month has passed since we received the last batch of security updates from Microsoft. And the time is upon us again, so buckle up.

Today marks the Patch Tuesday release for the month of May, which means that the major vulnerabilities and flaws will finally be fixed. Well, most of them at least.

While we wait for this rollout to begin. let’s take a look at last month’s patches and see what can expect from this release.

What was last month’s Patch Tuesday all about?

The Redmond-based tech giant has been hard at work on security improvements in pretty much everything that has to do with software security.

Last month, the 74 new updates that were deployed during the Patch Tuesday rollout addressed CVEs in:

• Microsoft Windows and Windows Components
• Office and Office Components
• Exchange Server
• .NET Core and Visual Studio Code
• 3D Builder and Print 3D
• Microsoft Azure and Dynamics 365
• Defender for IoT and the Malware Protection Engine
• Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based)

Looking back at last month’s rollout, with 74 CVEs released, six were rated Critical, 67 are rated Important, and only one is rated Moderate in severity.

What can we expect this month?

We’re not looking at anything unusual as far as vulnerabilities go, so we can pretty much just expect the standard set of Microsoft operating system and Office application updates.

That being said, make sure you keep a lookout for a .NET framework update, as well as the usual .NET core development releases.

We’ll have to see if the trend for large numbers of CVEs addressed continues. We predict it will since it has been a quiet month from Microsoft with regard to out-of-band releases.

Only a few hours separate us from this software rollout, so we might as well just wait and see with our own eyes. Let’s hope it’s only standard stuff.
