Final Fantasy XVI, released in June’23 for PlayStation, could soon make its way to the Xbox ecosystem. Developers have confirmed plans to start working on bringing Final Fantasy XVI to other platforms.
In an interview with Noise Pixel, developers Naoki Yoshida (Producer) and Takeo Kujiraoka (DLC Director) said,
It’s not over in the sense that we have the PC version. Once the PC version is released, we’re thinking about hopefully moving to other platforms as well. However, that’s not really talking about the story; it’s more about moving it onto different platforms. So, there is a sense that while the project is still going, there is not that sense of being sad and having to leave them yet. But I’m pretty sure that once everything is released and we’ve moved on to the next project, that would be the time where it kind of hits us that, “Oh, it’s really it’s over?”
While Naoki Yoshida didn’t hint at an Xbox release, he’s mostly talking about the platform because that’s still a significant untapped market waiting for the release of Final Fantasy XVI.
The game could be released on Nintendo Switch as well, but experts believe that developers would prioritize Xbox over the handheld console.
PC version of Final Fantasy XVI in the final stages, to be out soon
Speaking on the release of the PC version of Final Fantasy XVI, Naoki Yoshida confirmed that the game will be released within a year.
As per Yoshida, game development is going on smoothly and the remaining work should be completed in the next few months. Developers are currently focused on optimization work.
Also, Yoshida confirmed speculations that Final Fantasy XVI will have a demo (trial) version for the PC. It will help you ascertain the game’s performance on your machine and identify any compatibility issues before purchase.
For now, Final Fantasy XIV was released on Xbox, but to the player’s dismay, the game uses a new currency, FFXIV.
