ChatGPT AI without energy

ChatGPT consumes a lot of energy daily for its processes. In addition, it is still in development so that energy usage might increase considerably soon. Furthermore, even if we are at the beginning of AI, we won’t have the power to sustain future projects.

After all, according to The New Yorker, ChatGPT consumes 17,000 times the energy of a US household per day. Moreover, if Google included AI in every search, its energy consumption would exceed the amount consumed by some countries.

How does ChatGPT affect the environment?

ChatGPT dramatically affects the environment due to its energy consumption and carbon emissions. After all, according to Elon Musk, by 2025, we won’t have enough power to support the advancement of AI. On top of that, by 2027, AI might consume half a percent of the global energy. Thus, we may need an alternative energy source to power the AI. However, this could also lead to higher resource exploitations.

ChatGPT is esteemed to answer two hundred million requests per day. Thus, it consumes more than half a million kilowatt-hours of electricity. In addition, ChatGPT is one of many AIs available, and most of them require a lot of energy to process.

Furthermore, AI could become a bigger problem, similar to cryptocurrency mining. We will need a technology breakthrough to further improve ChatGPT and the other large language models. Also, using AI can improve the energy sources and increase the output.

Ultimately, energy usage is not the only problem of ChatGPT and other AI models. After all, they are using far more resources. Furthermore, they produce electronic waste, use large quantities of water for their cooling processes, and emit CO2. However, for now, they are more problematic than others. Yet, they could become a threat in the future.
