Celebrating the power of the arts in criminal justice: SING SING screening and Connections Club launch

Sing Sing 1

Last night (Wednesday 28 August) we hosted an exclusive preview screening of SING SING at the Charlotte Street Hotel, for Criminal Justice Alliance members. The film, based on the real-life Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA) programme at Sing Sing Correctional Facility, tells the inspiring story of a group of men involved in creating theatrical stage shows through this transformative initiative. SING SING features an extraordinary cast, including professional actors Colman Domingo and Paul Raci, alongside several men who participated in the programme during their time at Sing Sing.

This screening marks the first in a series of CJA events we’re calling Connections Club. These regular, informal networking events will provide members with opportunities to meet, share expertise, and learn from one another around a common theme – in this case, the power of the arts in criminal justice. Future events might include things like film screenings, book launches, site visits, or learning workshops. We’re eager to collaborate with members across the UK for these in-person gatherings. If you would like to showcase your work, highlight specific programmes, or suggest a focus for the Connections Club, please reach out to Holly at Holly.brooks-burgin@criminaljusticealliance.org.uk.

SING SING will be in cinemas from Friday, 30 August, and we encourage everyone to go and see it. Why not take advantage of National Cinema Day on Saturday, 31 August? Hundreds of cinemas across the UK are coming together to celebrate cinema and the movie-going experience, offering all tickets from just £4.

We were delighted to partner with Revolving Doors, Prison Reform Trust, and Glasshouse Theatre to offer this opportunity to our members. A special thank you to DDA Global and Black Bear Pictures for making this event possible.
